Will Learning How To Detox Your Body Boost Your Immune System
Looking after mine and my familys health has always been very important to me. I’ve managed to avoid being ill, and can’t remember the last time I had a cold or virus of any kind - or certainly not that lasted more than half a day or so. So it was completely out of the blue when I began feeling constantly tired and lethargic, and getting out of bed in the morning was becoming quite a chore. Over the course of about 12 months I’d seen my doctor many times and had all the tests he threw at me, but they all came back negatve.
I was visiting a chiropractor one day for an old “war wound”, and she advised me that I was in need of a natural detox, and generally learning about to detox your body and how my eating habits may be affecting my health. I didn’t know the first thing about detoxing, so figured it was a worthy investment of my time to at least check it out, and why so many alternative and complementary health practitioners recommend regular detox dieting and recommend starting with the 7 day detox diet so strongly.
She also hinted to me to try a relaxing foot detox. I now treat myself to a foot massage at least once a week, if you don’t want to invest in a foot spa, the detox foot patches can be just as good - but doing it this way you miss out on the relaxing foot massage at the same time
So here’s my top tips about how to detox your body.
Make sure you drink plenty of waterOne of the most important things you need to is drink lots of water while you are following a detoxification diet as it will prevent the build up of toxins and man made chemicals in your body. It also helps to prevent constipation, stops water retention (believe it or not), and hydrates your skin which improves your skin tone. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day (about 2 liters), and more when you exercise.
As a rough guide, for every hour that your exercise each day, drink an extra 2 glasses of water. The healthiest type of water is filtered tap water. Try to store your water at room temperature rather than in the fridge. Feel free to substitute herbal teas if you can’t face all that water - loose leaf is better than tea bags as it hasn’t been processed as much. Dandelion root, yarrow, roibosch and green tea are particularly good as their hidden ingredients assist in the detox process. Roibosch and green tea is especially healthy as it is a rich source of natural antioxidants.
Do You Need To Go Organic
You do not need to switch to a totally organic diet on a detox diet, unless you can afford it, but if you can manage one or two organic foods that would be great.
If you can’t buy many organic foods, don’t worry. It’s more important that you eat plentiful amounts of fresh foods regardless of them being organic or not, instead of eating too few of them. Having said that, there are some very beneficial health reasons of concentrating on organic food on a healthy detox diet.
Organic foods are free from artificial pesticides and sprays, and therefore they are much healthier being free from toxins and man made chemicals. Although it’s a controversial area, there is growing evidence that the build up of pesticide residues can cause long term health problems.
By comparison, organic foods are processed much less than non-organic. The end result being that organic foods are free from artificial additives and hydrogenated fats. The taste and flavor of organic food is usually much better as well.
